From music composition to Gen AI: Arsène (28) discovered a new passion within the Recommendations & Search IT Area.
Arsène Rurangiza (28) from Mons began his career in the music world, focusing on electroacoustic composition at the conservatory. His experience using the computer as a creative tool sparked a growing interest in IT. That passion eventually led him to Campus 19, where he learned the basics of programming without any prior knowledge. Now, as a trainee within DPG Media’s ‘Recommendations & Search’ Area, he contributes to the further development of ChatDPG.
"The Recommendations & Search Area works on the algorithms behind VTM GO, Streamz, and our publishing brands, but it also includes the team behind ChatDPG," explains Area Manager Sam Landuydt. "Arsène has been part of that small team since January, for a six-month period."
ChatDPG meets Slack
The trainee reflects on his first weeks, during which he primarily got to know the software behind ChatDPG and immediately started his own project: “I’ve been working for a few weeks now on integrating ChatDPG into Slack. This will make it easier to quickly ask the AI a question without having to switch to another browser.”
According to Arsène, Campus 19 was a great preparation for the traineeship: “The way of working during the training gave me the confidence to figure things out on my own. The technologies I’m using now are new to me, but by approaching things with the same problem-solving mindset as at Campus 19, I’m making good progress. And luckily, I can always turn to the team with my — sometimes silly — questions,” Arsène laughs.

Learning from Each Other
For Sam, Arsène is a valuable addition to the team as a junior: “Thanks to him, the team also gains new perspectives. His questions about existing processes allow colleagues who’ve been working on the project for months to look at certain developments in a different way. It’s great that DPG Media offers programs like the Developer Academy. It keeps our teams young and is an excellent way to address the tight labor market,” says Sam.
“There’s still so much to discover in the world of Gen AI.” – Arsène
Diving Deeper into Gen AI
As the traineeship wraps up in June, the Area Manager hopes Arsène will have become a fully integrated team member who can also bring forward his own ideas for ChatDPG. “He’s very passionate, so if he continues like this, I’m confident he’ll get there,” says Sam. Arsène is already looking forward to continuing his growth in the field of generative AI: “After finishing the Developer Academy, a new learning phase begins for me. There’s still so much to explore and try once I’m fully familiar with the processes within Gen AI. I’m excited to dive even deeper into it.”
