Erwin Deckers returns to radio at Willy after 18 years.

After eighteen years of radio silence, Erwin Deckers returns to where it all began: behind the microphone. From 9 January onwards, he will present the new programme Deckers Draait Door on Willy, every Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In doing so, he takes over the time slot from Wim Oosterlinck, who has chosen to work four days out of five. Deckers Draait Door on Fridays is the perfect kick-off to the weekend: familiar rock, feel-good vibes and a generous dose of nonsense.

Wim Oosterlinck will remain on air from Monday to Thursday during the evening drive. On Fridays, he is making room for other projects. “In addition to my radio show, I also make the podcast Drie Boeken. That has really taken off lately, with live recordings, a weekly newsletter and a book. By doing one day less radio, I get more headspace for these and new projects. But Willy will always be my home.” Letting go of Fridays is something he does with peace of mind. “Erwin is someone I trust, and he’s also a good friend. I can’t think of a better person to get the weekend started.”

Erwin Deckers himself is no stranger to the radio landscape. He was a key figure in the launch and success of Qmusic, presented the iconic morning show Deckers & Ornelis there for many years, then moved into management and strategy, and today coaches creative talent and creative teams. He was also involved in the launch of Willy, where he now steps into the studio with great enthusiasm. “It’s been since 2008 that I last made radio myself, so if I were ever to do it again, it had to be with a station that truly suits me. That is 100% the case with Willy. What’s more, Friday evening is a momentum: the transition from the workweek to the weekend. That’s the feeling I want to capture in my programme. With familiar rock tracks that evoke that Friday feeling. And what happens in between… well, that’s hard to describe (laughs). There’s room for the necessary nonsense to send listeners into the weekend with a smile on their face.”
